Then there are others such as myself that are still using the Firewire cable that Flex supplied wth the SDR-5000 (back in 2008) that has worked without fail on two different computers….upgraded mine a few years ago.

I own one myself! True! I have had problems with bad cables, and erratic connections between the cable and the computer. Cleaning the plug and socket helped considerably. Replacing the cable with a better one helped even more. Always eliminate the hardware problems first, in my experience.
