There's a reasonably thorough page documenting how the new permissions
system works here [1]. If you still have questions after reading it, feel
free to ask here. Basically, you edit topics via the web interface to
include simple statements about who can read and change them.

Ill start with the 2.0 version then. I dont really need WikiTalk at the
moment...just basic wiki operations. When you say permissions, is that
database based? Can I set that via the application itself or do I have to
manually insert a record or put that in a text file? Im sure your
performance is good enough as less then 30 employees will be reading it on
pretty fast machines.
Thanks for answering my questions.

OK, so three questions here, I believe.
1) User permissions. This is supported sort of in 1.8 and fully in 2.0.
In 1.8 you need to manage it via file permissions, which is generally not
practical. In 2.0 you can put stuff like "DenyRead: user:candera" on a page
and it'll prevent me from accessing the page. This is fully working in the
current 2.0 code.
2) UI customization - I'll leave this one for someone else to answer
fully. There has been some good, work here in 2.0, and you've always been
able to make substantial changes by editing the CSS.
3) Where is 2.0 at? Nearly done. All the major functionality (with the
exception of one admin page) is complete. Performance is not where we want
it to be, though. We've made really good progress, and the vast majority of
pages seem to render as fast as under 1.8. What remains is to fix some less
common but important scenarios revolving around WikiTalk. This one is my
task, and I've been making decent progress. Once the perf is where it needs
to be, we'll add the administration page that lets you manage the
configuration a bit more easily and then ship it as 2.0 RTM.
Of course, any discussion of "where is 2.0" is a bit artificial. Because we
employ continuous integration, we're essentially always shipping the latest
code. Sometimes that code is ready for production, sometimes not. I'd say
what we have now is reasonable to deploy for most wikis.

Subject: [Flexwiki-users] some questions
Hello all...just had some questions :
Im looking to use and only support a wiki system for the dc govt and had
some questions. I cant find any better wikis then yours on .NET so Im going
to go with flex wiki. Correct me if im wrong but can you have users with
permissions ( what pages they can edit) and how goes the styling. I saw
something on the web site about making skinning easier but there were no
examples. I have to just make it look decent with good functionality. Also
any news on the 2.0 version as Ive seen lots of emails but dont know where
you guys stand.
