I really hate to feed trolls, but feel I must respond.

Adding security is a major feature and required a near-full re-architecture
of the application. Hence the 2.0 designation.

Security is not imperative on an Intranet, but is an absolute requirement
for an Internet deployment, if the wiki owners care about data integrity. It
also makes possible a number of features that would not have been created
without a proper security, i.e. proper forum support using threaded
messages, or personal blogs with talkback. Security make it possible to lock
certain pages but still leaves it possible for other pages, or entirely new
pages, to be created by any user, whether authenticated or not. Security is
an enabling technology that will make it possible to add significant new
features in the future.

In addition to security there are a number of new features that will be
available. These include CAPTCHA inputs, document management (simple), file
upload and download, improved administration, personal blogs, forum support
and picture libraries.

It is necessary to get the 2.0 released as soon as possible and move on to
start work on the 2.2 release.

The open source development model is significantly different from a
commercial development model. In the commercial model the resource provider
decides what features will be paid for in the expectation that there will be
a monetary return higher than the amount of money required to create the
product. In the open source model the resource is the individual developer
time volunteered with no expectation of monetary return, so the motivation
is a quality product meeting the concerns of those volunteering effort. The
open source model can be modified through provision of monetary incentive
when there is a desire to monetize a product or replace a commercial
product, where a resource provider donates money in return for certain
features or deliverables within an open source project. In an open source
model it is necessary to maintain momentum, FlexWiki is just rebuilding a
momentum that had been slow until recent months. Momentum attracts
volunteers and the more volunteers the better quality of the product,
providing the momentum is maintained. (See the history of Debian and Ubuntu
for prime examples.)
