I was trying to build a version for MacOS X. I followed the links from www.flightgear.org -> downloads -> Read to run Macintosh OSX Binaries -> fgdev.tar.gz. Thats where the instructions were. 

Does the version based on the pointer you quote above compile and run on OS X ?
