!! Warning what seems to be my 'obligatory' follows !!

So now any program wanting to parse the FGFS materials file,
PPE for instance, will need to include a XML parser from a file 
that is twice as large, 18k vs 34k,  and harder to read,  for this 
human at least.

FYI, The old format allowed for this just as easily.  It is basically
a wavefront materials file that is very successful in several of the 
'best' modeling packages available.

I know I sound like a broken record but

"PLEASE before making incompatible changes to FlightGear
at least bring it up on the list for discussion"
