Because SGI recently sold a couple of 3D-graphics patents to Microsoft and Microsoft could be interested not to license these to companies that support anything else than DirectX. So Nvidia could drop OpenGL support for their cards in the next years and you can throw your card into the bucket ... given that you want to upgrade your Linux kernel some day.
