You'd be much better off doing a targeted CVS update. You
can update from CVS given a tag, a revision, or a date (I
think even a date/time). I have done this before.

If you want to do an update given a date, do this:

cvs -Dyesterday update -dP

-or-

cvs -D3/11/2002 update -dP

This is from memory, so it may be off a little. You should
do a

cvs update --help

to get the picture.

When you are all done and want to go to the head version
again (the latest stuff in cvs) I think you need to do a:

cvs update -Adp

The -A option removes the sticky tags that materialize
when you check out files that are based on a revision
number or date.
