>From the nvidia README (Linux):

VBLANK SYNCING

Setting the environment variable __GL_SYNC_TO_VBLANK to a non-zero value
will force glXSwapBuffers to sync to your monitor's vertical refresh rate
(perform a swap only during the vertical blanking period) on GeForce or
newer hardware (ie: everything but TNT/TNT2 products).

For windows people, there is probably something similar in the windows
display properties.

Enabling this feature caps your frame rate at your monitors vertical
refresh rate.

Assuming FlightGear otherwise would have run faster, this locks
FlightGear into a stable fixed display rate that is synced perfectly
with your monitor. As long as you don't drop frames, you end up with
*silky* smooth motion. ***Very nice*** definitely try this if you
haven't already.

I'm sure other video cards/drivers have something similar if you dig
in the docs.

Regards,

Curt.
