I've forked the 172P and 172R, both in JSBSim and in the base package. The 172R is still the default, but you can use
fgfs --aircraft=c172p fgfs --aircraft=c172p-3d to get the alternative. The 172P will be more familiar to many pilots (i.e. 2700RPM instead of 2400RPM), and it has an O320 rather than an IO360 (we don't actually distinguish fuel-injected right now, but when we do it will make a big difference for startup and will add carb-heat control to the 172P). Some spot checks against the cruise performance tables in the C172P POH put the plane pretty close to expected performance.
