Finally got a favorable answer to my question of a couple weeks ago.
The 0.8 FlightGear in the form of the base package and Windows .zip
files runs very well on my wife's new laptop. System is Pentium 4, 2GHz,
256 MB RAM, ATI Mobility M6 graphics with 32MB of DDR video memory. With
a 1024x768 display, sitting at the default starting point, frame rate is
just about 50 fps. Flight at 1500 ft. from KSFO heading NW varies from
50 to 60 with the visibility pushed out 6 clicks. Some brief hesitation
as the scenery pages in, but very smooth otherwise.
