Great. For step 2, how about airport advisories for UNICOM (i.e. most
of the world's airports). We could either add a mechnism to allow the
user to request it, or simply broadcast it over the frequency every
few minutes as if someone had requested it. It will sound something
like this (if memory serves; I don't fly at uncontrolled airfields too
often):
Plane: Nowhereville UNICOM, papa mike romeo.
(Long pause, while UNICOM guy finishes in the bathroom).
Plane: (5th time) NOWHEREVILLE UNICOM, PAPA MIKE ROMEO!
UNICOM: Papa mike ... whatever, go ahead.
Plane: Papa mike romeo is three miles to the southeast at two
thousand feet inbound. Request the advisory.
UNICOM: No traffic reported in the circuit, last active was runway
two seven.
(If you're lucky, they might also peek at the windsock and add)
Wind favours runway zero niner.
Of course, you could leave out all but the last part. Often some
other pilot on the ground or just departing will feel sorry and give
you an unofficial advisory after the first few tries long before the
UNICOM guy gets back from the john or a smoke.
All the best,
David
