I've taken a look at your code. First of all, I think this implementation is much too specific to include in the sourcode, but I think it forms a good basis to generate a generic serial protocol class which could be configured by an XML configuration file.
If you want to take a stab at it, please go ahead, otherwise I would have to generait it, which might take some time.
In the mean time, If you generate a diff file (diff -Nuar /path/to/CVS/FlightGear FlightGear > f1serial.diff) which could be applies by the patch command (patch -p0 -i f1serial.diff) you can quite easilly update any new CVS version of FLightGear.
Can you let me know if you are going to implement this generic serial protocoll or not?
