Netscape 4.7x is not W3C compilant we should be happy and get rid of that old browser. It's not worth breaking standards just to support an old day version. Please upgrade. There are plenty of new and free alternatives available, even for slow machines. If you can solve that problem in a way that you can keep standard conform html code then do so, but don't do it if the only solution is a mess of none standard conform html code.
