I agree that there should be a primative gaming system, I sometimes play sturmovik which is me and a mate alone. Maybe a mini/cutdown version of the server at a later date which allows private gaming?
In my opinion I would go for a set of "official" servers that are centrally managed and people connect to create a 'world' and then private run servers for personal use. As for the monitor, what I was considering was a tool that connects to a network port on the server which dumps data to allow you to see network traffic, maybe call it trafmon? I am now getting really into this and looking forward to seeing it come to fuition.
