Curt: Nice to hear from you.
The X-Plane files have changed incrementally over the past year, and will change again sometime soon to add vector details at airports (such as taxiway lines, etc.). There are no longer any file size limits in X-Plane, though there is still a 'regional' limit of 200 airports per 2x3 lat/lon 'region' (this is easily skipped if FG wants the full data set). The nav-aid, fix and airway data files (airways are new in X-Plane 6.70 and above) have no limits. It would be much easier if FG could use the X-Plane files - I am not sure if there is anything significant that FG would lose by doing this. It would make my life much easier if we supported just a single file format! FYI, the latest definition of the file formats is at: www.x-plane.org/users/robinp/AptNavFAQ.htm You may also wish to check my main site at www.x-plane.org/users/robinp for details of current data issues ... and a natty picture of me! You will see lots of new features since last you looked: - Option for runway shoulders. - Defined runway markings (visual, non-precision, precision or helipad). - Runway "smoothness" (a 0.0 - 1.0 scale). - Flag for the runway 'distance remaining' signs. - Multiple airport start-up locations (eg gate. positions) - Airport tower view. - Airport ATC frequencies. The nav-aid file remains unchanged, but now includes explicit data for any DMEs (and for the DME component of a VOR-DME or VORTAC). Some residual work is to add accurate magnetic variation for each VOR where the DAFIF offset data is missing. The fix file is unchanged, but much grown as users add fixes for approaches at various airports (icw the GoodWay flight Planner) The airway file is new and looks great on X-Plane's chart views.
