Yup, but thats only works *if* you have a camera :-)

FYI 
AVI FIles are dead simple to make
You write the header 
you stream the frames to the file writing the indices as you go
< ftell is your friend >
You rewind the file and fill in the number of frames in the header
and patch in the index file

avilib is readily available
