Hi,

Erik just commited a change that enable one to tweak the way 
the static scenery is drawn. The new scheme involves three 
different level of detail per model ( and a fourth one that is 
model not drawn ).

In preferences.xml, it is possible to change the range of 
distances where each level appears in properties named :
/sim/rendering/static-lod/detailed,
/sim/rendering/static-lod/rough and 
/sim/rendering/static-lod/bare.

The rule is as follow :
from 0 to .../detailed, the detailed model is drawn,
from .../detailed to .../rough, the rough model is drawn,
from .../rough to .../bare, the bare model is drawn and 
from .../bare to infinite, the model is not drawn.

Current default values are 1500, 9000 and 30000 ( in meters ).
Decrease those values to get more fps, increase them to get 
more details.

Not all models currently follow this scheme but they will 
be converted as soon as I can.
