Just in case anyone is scratching their heads over this nonsense commit, I think I made a procedural mistake on my end ... missed one change in my commit last night, then had to rechange the file to get it to work correctly this morning.
:-)
I had been searching for something non-obvious but in the end figured I had already committed the same patch with just one minor difference.
