You could say that the origin (0,0,0) is at the nose of the aircraft. The X axis is positive towards the tail. The Y axis is positive towards the right (looking forward while sitting in the aircraft), the Z axis of course is then positive upwards. You can actually place the origin just about anywhere, because it is only the relative distances that matter the most.
