The only true cartesian coordinate system in FlightGear is the
"global" coordinates, which is probably not what you want.  This
system is geocentric, with the X axis pointing out the equator at 0
longitude, the Y axis out +90 longitude, and the Z axis out the north
pole.

If you want to get 2D coordinates for a map display, you're going to
need to do a map projection of some form, which is a complicated
field.  Can you be more specific about your needs?
