Here's a pretty much fixed version of the float plane model:
http://www.spiderbark.com/fgfs/dhc2f.ac.gz

The basic problem with the ac file is that model's data sets were being
defined with both vertices and kids. Unfortunately I don't think the ac3d
file spec itself explicitly says that a given obj data set must be a "Group"
_or_ an "Object" but not both. But that is the way the AC3D program works,
and that is why the editor was behaving so badly.

The panel issue was just a transparency ordering problem (which I believe is
where the earlier discussion started). After I hand edited (just because Ac3d
seemed unstable) the file so that groups were groups and objects were objects
and everything was in the world group, it was possible to move the panel down
to the bottom of the file in Ac3d.

That fixed the problem. Folks seeing the problem could try the model at the
above link. Since this is so new, I'm not going to commit this unless I hear
from the author or we have reached a unanimity about it on the list. Note
that there is still a slight depth buffer problem with the guage faces (easy
to fix). This aircraft really looks like a winner, btw. Nice work from Syd.

Best,

Jim
