Here's a symptomatic example:
cvs: -rw-r----- 1 m m 1049088 Jan 11 19:31 UC-up-down.rgb
recoded: -rw-r----- 1 m m 32216 Jan 11 19:31 UC-up-down.rgb
That's only 3% of the original size! There are lots of similar examples.
