Yes.  A quick Google should show that it's been reported to Blender's
bug database multiple times (including once by me).  It's been fixed,
although I don't know if the fix has made it into the officially-released
version yet (as opposed to Blender CVS).

A workaround is to work out of a directory that doesn't have as long
a path, or use a shorter filename (e.g. I was getting burned because I
had a path that looked like

"/home/cmetzler/Projects/FlightGear/Scenery/Ground_Structures/Generic/Skyscrapers/..."

and working in "/home/cmetzler/Projects/FlightGear/Scenery/" solved the
problem.
