I had the same problem last week (albeit using version 0.9.5) and couldn't get around either with flags or compile-time options. I was getting the error because the computer I was running it on didn't have a sound card, and I got around it by installing one. Though it's too late for me, I'd still be interested in an answer to this question. I'm particularly interested in knowing why OpenAL is initialized even when --disable-sound is passed.

Hi,

I've got an installation of FlightGear that I've built myself, and it
runs fine. However, when I install the same installation on other
computers, I get an 'Audio Initialization failed' error. I checked
for the OpenAL dll, and it is there, and I'm running it with the
disable-audio flag set, so I'm not using audio at all.

If anyone knows why I might be getting this message please let me know.

Thanks,
Drew
