Hi all,
why don't we use the AVSIM file library (repository) until we have got a better solution?
1. FlightGear is already present with 4 categories
   - FlightGear - base distribution
   - FlightGear - scenery and terrain
   - FlightGear - source code
   - FlightGear - miscelleneous files
There are two files int the library for FG until now, one aircraft livery and and old version of my FGTools prg.
We could use the FlightGear - scenery and terrain category
2. AVSIM is free of charge, only registration is requiered
3. AVSIM is very popular within the flightsimmer community
4. It is an "unofficial" support of FlightGear, so anybody can share what he wants to, all licence problems are related to the uploading user

Just zip the "5803051.btg.gz" located in "\e170s50\e174s42" files with their folder structure and upload the file with a selfdeclaring name (ie nowhere-terrain.zip) to AVSIM FlightGear - scnery and terrain and give a note to the AVSIM FG forum and the user mailing list.

I personally would be very interested in installing some terrains other user/developer already have changed and I also would upload some local scenery (but only equipped with objects, no terrain corrections until now).

If we get something better in the future, ok. Until then it would be a good interims solution.

Hi guys, by the New Year I'll have an update to "5803051.btg.gz" located
in "\e170s50\e174s42", completed. Mainly with new elevations and face
types, I hope to have significant objects included.
The procedure of including a ".btg"-file into the standard scenery is a
no-op, so if you like to distribute your work then I'd suggest to
simply put ir onto a web page, make a small description and write a
short announcement to this or the "-users" list.

This is a real pity.
It means that if people model an area nicely and new users come along they won't know about it since they may never even subscribe the the mailing lists let alone happen to be around then the announcement is made.

This is why other flight simulators do so well - they include a lot "in the box" without the need to hunt all over the web for addons that you don't even know exist.

How popular would the San Francisco scenery be if all it contained was the default generated airports and terrain? If we can do it for San Francisco then surely we can do it for other areas too?
If not then why not?
