A procedural simulator like the Fly! series certainly is a lot of fun. You actually have to (*gasp*) read something resembling a POH to operate the aircraft. However none of the aircraft we have in FG are that detailed yet. It's too much work for a single developer to model all the systems and instrumentation on a commercial aircraft like a Citation or a 737 all alone and so they get tired of it and abandon or shelve their work for another day. What we really need are more aircraft developers who are willing to get together and tackle a single aircraft like the MSFS guys do. They typically work on an aircraft for about 1 to 1.5 years with a core team of about 4 to 6 people. I'm referring to high quality, freeware addon teams like Project Airbus, iFDG, POSKY, etc. I'm under the impression that FG developers are a bunch of mavericks each wanting to invent the airfoil from scratch. :) However I think it's more to do with the fact that there aren't enough addon developers in the FG circle mainly due to FG's lack of visual appeal. X-Plane didn't have much of a following either until the graphics started improving a lot. Once the eye candy started appearing the addon developers started arriving in droves.
