Curt, great job! I made two flights this morning that I am very familiar with in reality. 1st, I took off from Vance Brand (2V2) and flew west toward Longs Peak, the 14000 + ft. mountain that gave Longmont it's name. This peak is very near to another called Meeker that masks it from the South. A third peak is just to the North of Longs and all three were very recognizable with very real shapes. I climbed to 14000 MSL as I approached Longs, passing just to the North of it and as I approached the continental divide, I could see the river and lakes to my left leading to Grand Lake near Gramby. The Gramby airport is just South of Grand lake and West of the divide with a field elevation of 8200 ft. Right trafic to miss the mountains south east of the airport and a short field landing put me into this beautiful little mountain strip. I have flown this exact flight in my comanche several times and this fgfs VFR flight was very much like reality. This would be a great x-country to add to the scenic VFR list. 2nd flight: I wanted to check out the Denver skyline. Took off from 2V2 with Jeffco VOR (115.4) and ILS (111.7) on the navs. Just after leaving 2V2 and turning to 160 deg heading, I hit "z" a number of times to make the visibility lke the Denver area is most of the time (you can see Pike's Peak West of Colorado Springs from the pattern for 2V2 (40 to 50 miles away). The Dever skyline was immediately visible and my frame rate only dropped to 33 fps from inside the comanche and 66 - 75 for the exterior views (this with a 128 MB Nvidia FX 5600 Ultra @ 1600x1200) and Athlon 3200+ and FC4 Linux. Flew to the BJC VOR and used a parallel entry to the hold at ALIKE as the reverse turn to 29R ILS. The approach was again very realistic. I also checked out Chicago, Battle Creek/Kalamazo, MI, and the Des Moines, IA areas. All look good. The Des Moines area is very much improved with the missed elevation area West of Des Moines fixed. Realistic VFR is much improved with this new scenery.
Thanks to Curt and others involved!
