I would love to have the ambient light tied to a property. That would
make it a piece of cake to write a nasal script to generate one or more
properties to drive building lighting. The big win with this method is
that you don't want the lights to turn right on, since that light is
added to the ambient light in OGL resulting in a very bright building.

You just want to make up the difference as the light fades. In real
life, the light thrown on a building has very little effect until the
ambient light gets very low and everyone's pupils open up to the point
that they can detect the artificial light. OGL doesn't have that kind of
range, so I have to play games to make it look right.
