This is a plausibility check. If a channel to the configured host:port
is openend in festival mode, then the voice subsystem sends an empty
message (SayText "") and expects "LP" as reply. If this is not the case,
then it assumes that there is no Festival listening. Could you check
that manually by telnetting into Festival and checking the reply?
$ telnet localhost 1314
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.
(SayText "hello") <-- enter this
LP
#<Utterance 0x403d97a8>
ft_StUfF_keyOK

I could take this check out without causing much trouble, but I'd
rather like to know what happens here.

Hi there , I tried that , and everything went as shown above .... Im
currently updating and recompiling latest CVS , so I'll try flightgear
again in a bit .
