How do you want to do interactive placement without interaction? ;-)
I think there's no way other than gimp, if the placement of the watermark must
be adjusted for every single image...

There is PHP library GD which is used to to all kind of stuff with images.
If is someone interested to do such a script in PHP for FG site there is a tutorial:
