Just for your information: FlightGear actually _has_ a working
multiplayer interface, including a protocol that probably outperforms
the VATSIM protocol, there are multiplayer servers and even a 'moving
map' based on Gogle Maps, there is a choice of suitable OpenSource VoIP
client libraries as well as servers that would do the job.
But you're right, we currently don't have an ATC client (well, there
_are_ OpenSource ATC clients which probably could be modified to work
with our multiplayer servers) and, this argument really strikes: We
won't be able to build a community that large in a reasonable time. As
we experience several thousand downloads of FlightGear binary packages
per month, apparently only a few users at ready for this level of
fidelity.
Cheers,
Martin.
