Heh - in effect it's using tracers for every round.  Using 
non-emissive and slightly transparent rounds looks better in 
daylight but when I was working with Alexis on the A-10 he 
pointed out that you can't see anything when it starts getting 
dark and afaik there's no way to mix tracer with ordinary 
rounds.

Definitely something to be improved but until there's a mechanism 
for registering and tracking the flight of ballistic objects I 
figure that the best that can be done is to make them visible.

I'll have a look though, in to switching between more realistic 
looking rounds during the day and tracers at night - should be 
possible - might even be possible to fade between them - I'll 
have to have a look...
