Currently there is no official "rule", but for consistency I would recommend using ICAO code. FWIW, I'm strongly considering dumping the current directory structure, in favor of including the traffic pattern files in the same directory as where the AI aircraft itself is located. This would allow you to just drop a new aircraft in the AI directory, and it's associated schedules would be picked up automatically. It may be a while before that is implemented though...
