Did you find you were flying at a particularly high angle of attack?

You may have been flying it on the back side of the power curve. 

To test, try forcing a higher rotation speed on take-off or diving from
height and then going to level flight.

Of course, you probably already knew this.

BTW, is "coffin corner" another description for the same thing, or am I
confused?
