According to some articles, the pilots of these airplanes got trained for taxing. They did not use brakes in the training airplanes but use the rudder, throttle, and other controls (if needed) to make a turn. I guess they frequently adjusted throttle for making a stable turn. They used brakes for controlling loaded airplanes as these were heavier than training airplanes. This makes it way much harder to control Hayate on the ground. I think you need a foot-pedal to manipulate this airplane. # Probably I'm telling this to my wife :-p In the FlightGear world, you need to use rudder and left / right brakes to control the airplane while its tailwheel is on the ground. when it is lifted up, you can use the rudder to control the airplane. Checking the turn gauge helps you predict which direction the airplane will go. With a keyboard, which I don't recommend though, you need to brake on/ off frequently just like a pulse-width modulation control to make the airplane stable. I updated the xml files. The steerable part is commented out and tailwheel-lock is false by default. I leave it lockable for keyboard users.
