As long as the developers do track the bugs sent to the mailinglists and
relating to their own work themselves, so that the bugs don't get lost,
that seems reasonable.

I'm just wondering how we could get more newbie-developers involved in
the project. The well-involved developers which know enough of the
system to implement new features are already pretty busy.

Tracking down bugs and submitting bugfix patches could be a good way to
get to know the system. However, this requires visibility of the known
bugs. Unfortunately, I have no solution for missing reporting discipline
on the users' side.
