Hi Syd,

I did the kt-70 transponder awhile back. 

If by '4 empties' you are referring to the object groups in the AC file,
the groups "clicks" and "annunciators" aren't used and could be removed,
I guess.  The other two groups "digits" and "altitude" are used in
select anims in kt70.xml to shut off the readouts as appropriate so they
should be left alone.  I much prefer doing groupings in the AC file to
doing them in the XML file, it makes working with the model easier.

I don't see a problem with moving the material animation to the head of
the file.  I just tried it and OSG didn't seem to mind.  I don't have a
plib flightgear readily available...
