Having had this experience as well (at EDLN) I'd like to second that
this familiarization to dealing with ATC procedures if of great
benefit. In such cases when you simply utilize the aircraft as a medium
of transportation - be it for landing at a bigger airfield, for flying
in some Charlie airspace due to weather conditions or in foreign
countries - you'll feel much easier fulfilling the 'job'.
