Sounds like a fine idea, and might mean all the MP action isn't around
KSFO :)
Inflight comms from either the MP chat function, or Holger's voice widget
will make this much easier in the next release. Is there any chance
someone could build a win32 distribution of the voice widget?
Providing links to the appropriate scenery download would also make things
easier to arrange - otherwise we'll spend a lot of time in NorCal.
I don't think there needs to be a single coordinator, but instead it
should be added as a new part of the FG Forum. That way people can
advertize fly-ins well in advance, and participants can indicate their
interest without clogging up the list. Of course, a mention on the website
would be nice too. Could you add such a forum ("FlightGear MP Fly-ins"
perhaps?)
What's a BOF SIG?

PS - www.flightgear.org appears to be down as I write this. But you
probably know that already.
