Interesting. I built flightgear by modifying the configure command in 
debian/rules from "--with-simgear=/usr" 
to 
"--with-simgear=/media/ext_drive/devel/build/SimGear-1.0.0/debian/simgear-dev/usr"
 
which is where i built SimGear and it compiled fine and executes fine as 
well.

I shall download the sources from the above link. Do i only need to get 
flightgear or its dependencies (simgear and fgfs-base) too?
