I'd quite like to move forwards on this tonight, but I'd appreciate a bit more assent or criticism before I get too much further into the code. People have raised some objections to parts of the idea, and I've responded - I'd be be happy with some 'okay, that satisfies my objections' or 'no, that's not a good enough reason' replies, so I can move forward with the problems I want to solve, or come up with some more-acceptable alternative.
