Heh, getting a clue about your favourite network monitor's output is
probably not much harder than reading your fellow's source code  :-)
So the sole reason for not publishing the protocol is just to raise the
bar a tiny little bit higher ?

Yup, this is already known. But _how_ does the user enter his
authorization ? Is this negotiated only once when he signs onto IVAO and
afterwards stored in a local 'cookie', does the INL require to enter
his ID and password on every connect, for every of the supported
services (position, voice, whatever), does the INL come with a separate
background process to handle all the wire stuff (including
authentication) ? How does the user experience the login procedure when
he prepares for a flight if INL would be the means or transport ?

If you/we aim at convincing IVAO stuff to allow for the use of
FlightGear's native protocol and to maintain the suggestion of some
dubious "security" feeling, then we need to know what we're actually
talking about ....  and there are certainly dozends more questions of
this nature which become relevant the closer we get to the point.
