Gentlemen, Thanks for all your comments on the 1.99.5 RC1 files. The last two weeks have been rather bizarre for me actually. Not only did I spend a whole weekend in Canada for the final meeting final meeting of my former research group, I also ended up spending three days in Amsterdam to finish analyses for a paper I'm currently working on, and spent a lot of time finishing the writing of that paper over the last few days. Consequenlty, I've been a little unresponsive.
I have been following the discussion regarding the upcoming release, and just finished making a summary of all the relevant comments that I need to be involved in. As I see it right now, There is still some room for improvement in the aircraft selection. I'll think about that a little more. I'll try to do some more testing in the next day or two, and hope to be able to roll out another release candidate in the middle of next week. In the mean time, here are is a summary of my notes: Cheers, Durk ---- Next prerelease will be labeled 1.99.5-pre2 777ER : Fairly Complete Airliner - Syd Adams (current maintainer) votes against including the 777 - Various other people (including myself), however, argue that despite its limitations, the 777 is still the most advanced jetliner. - Apparently there is a better version of the 787, which isn't in CVS yet this could be a decent alternative. Also, we have a nice 747-400 model made by Gijs, which also isn't in CVS yet. Both could be competitors to the 777 - Considering all the jetliners in CVS, the 777 is still the best IMHO [DT] B1900d : Very complete Commuter jet, Twin Turbo Prop. - No comments received bo105 : The most advanced FlightGear helicopter - It was actually included in the RC. Just missed it in my notes [DT] bocian : Our most complete SailPlane - not comments received c17p : Light Single GA; our default aircraft - overall size can possibly be reduced by removing some liveries dhc2 : Versatile Tail Dagger, with Aerotowing Capability - Current version is rather tricky to start up. Maybe change with one of the other nice Dehavilland models by Syd Adams? [DT] Concorde : Supersonic Transport - Maybe drop it Dragonfly : Nice ultralight. F14 : Omnipowerful Jet Fighter; has so many features, it is very well capable of representing the category "Fighter Jet" - I'm still having trouble hooking up to the catapult [DT] CitationX : Small Commuter Jet - No comment received SopwithCamel : Historic Aircraft - Very difficult to Fly. Maybe replace with Stampe UFO : Classified - Hush.... :-) Zeppelin NT : Airship - Anders Gidenstam has reported that there are currently stil some interdependencies. Zero : WW-II Fighter - Needs carrier hook capabilities [DONE] Various notes: Paul Bohnert: FlightGear-1.99.5 configurations stops with the following error. config.status: creating utils/fgadmin/Makefile config.status: creating utils/fgadmin/src/Makefile config.status: creating utils/js_server/Makefile config.status: creating utils/Modeller/Makefile config.status: error: cannot find input file: utils/propmerge/Makefile.in James Sleeman: A "light sport" aircraft or something close would be good, there is a big gap between the Dragonfly and a 172, this in fact is probably the biggest growth area of aviation these days so seems a shame to skip over it. Likely candidates (one of): Lionceau Skyranger J3 Fred Bouvier: there is an odd camera-group setting in the preferences.xml file. This is not the standard preferences.xml file that we can get in CVS. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ SF.Net email is Sponsored by MIX09, March 18-20, 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
