The difference is, IIRC, that while both submodels and ballistic objects use the same code, submodels are only instantiated when required, while ballistic objects are instantiated at start-up. I haven't looked at the load stuff for a while. In truth, it's not actually very realistic, and no one has shown any interest up to now. The force stabilised stuff is indeed broken. I'll look at it over the coming days, but not until the weekend, or perhaps next week.
