Have you tried to use  <property>inertia/weight-lbs</property>  from JSBSim
being the basic value  with a gain factor in order to get the right  magnitude 
value 
for instance : 

<pure_gain name="systems/mule/mule-force">
           <input>inertia/weight-lbs</input>
           <gain>0.15</gain>
 </pure_gain>

Was experimented  with Crusader  and an other lighter aircraft
  (Fouga-Zephyr) and working perfectly  ( same gain).
