Hi, I finally had time to update the Wiki with detailed information on the EGPWS configuration. I think the module has been there for quite a while - but the manual was lacking a bit of detail. Also, I fixed a few stability issues and added two more configuration options.
Could s.o. please have a look at the patch and push it to GIT? Just a couple of one-liners... ;-) Also includes a pending patch for issue #139 ( http://code.google.com/p/flightgear-bugs/issues/detail?id=139 ) which could be closed. Here's what the patch does: * Fix issue #139 (sim deadlock in MK_VIII::Mode5Handler::get_soft_bias). * Fix more unitialized variables sometimes causing warnings not to work. * Fix some warnings only working on a single approach (missing reset). * Self-test can now be triggered more than once (missing reset). * Implement configuration options for attitude and altitude input selection (providing better precision and easier configuration for some planes). And here's the updated wiki page: http://wiki.flightgear.org/index.php/Ground_proximity_warning_system It's based on information I grabbed from the original developer documents, from the sources and also from the original manufacturer manuals. Quite amazing, the module doesn't just implement an EGPWS - it actually emulates almost all the details of the actual hardware module: inputs, outputs, even the configuration encoding. So, when configuring a plane, you could always use manuals of the original hardware. The developer certainly loved the details. But many FlightGear planes just use the configuration default - which matches a turboprop aircraft. This doesn't produce sensible warnings on a 777 or an A380 though... ;-) Hopefully the more detailed Wiki page helps to adapt the module for specific planes - even for those who don't like digging in real-world manuals. But it's still complex, since there's so many options. I haven't tested all the configuration options, therefore the wiki may not be perfectly accurate. If you find something not to be working as expected, just update the wiki. Or let me know - I'll check the module/wiki again. But before you start configuring: for all the callouts to work reliably, you'll need a fairly recent simgear (GIT), plus the attached patch for flightgear/src/Instrumentation. Have fun! Bitchin' Bob is visiting your cockpit soon! :-) Thorsten ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This SF.net email is sponsored by Sprint What will you do first with EVO, the first 4G phone?
