I was getting negative values in spite of the <abs> </abs> tags. So there
appears to be something wrong with the <abs> tag at least with the version of
stuff that is in FG git right now.
This was easy to fix by using a table like this:
<table>
<independentVar>fcs/elevator-pos-norm</independentVar>
<tableData>
-1.0 1.0
0.0 0.0
1.0 1.0
</tableData>
</table>
But the <abs> tag problem needs to be fixed.

There's no problem with the abs tag. I'm not sure where the problem is coming
