Hi Alberto,

I am aware of another popular flight simulator that does have the feature of
being able to change the approach lighting configuration from the instructor
console. My understanding of that system is that they actually only have a
single runway in their database, so it is up to the instructor to configure
and place the runway correctly for the desired training scenario. (And if
you wanted to take off from one airport and land at another, or divert to
your backup airport, the instructor would have to physically reconfigure the
runway and move it while the student is in flight.)

FlightGear takes a different approach. We include a large database of
airports with world wide coverage. Each airport already has its correct
real world approach lighting configuration (at least as defined in the
database when the scenery is generated.) So the recommended procedure in
FlightGear is to simply pick an airport that has the desired approach
lighting features you wish to demonstrate and fly your approaches into it.

Best regards,

Curt.
