Given the structural issues in how FG uses the GPU, I really wouldn't worry 
about this code running on the GPU - just do it on the CPU for the moment. I.e, 
we need to be using the GPU/OSG smarter / more efficiently, not overloading it 
doing tasks we have CPU spare to do occasionally.
