Hi All,

I reported a couple of issues and (one enhancement), complete with
patches on the tracker, but there has been no follow up so I am
wondering if the right way is to discuss on this list.

Any way, the 1st issue is #593.

I have developed a YASIM aircraft model for an ultra micro R/C plane
(less than 40cm wing span). The propeller spins at around 11000 rpm in
stationary air and around 17000rpm no load and is directly connected to
the engine (no gearbox).

With appropriate parameters, yasim:PropEngine:stabilize does not
converge in the 100 iterations allowed, essentially because the
algorithm assumes slower engine speeds.

The iteration starts at 52 rad/s and increases by 5 rad/s a maximum of
100 times to a maximum 552 rad/s or 5271.2 rpm. There is no way this
algorithm can stabilise for an engine going any faster.

My proposed solution is to scale the step size and starting angular
velocity for the aircraft. Fortunately both TurbineEngine and
PistonEngine models have some kind of "maxrpm" parameter which can be
used for this purpose.

This function yasim:PropEngine:stabilize does not seem to be used during
normal operation of the simulator, but it is called at initialisation
and it is certainly called by proptest.

Can anyone see any problem with the proposed patch?

Regards,
Ian
